Walter is expanding the DX18 grooving system range with two new tools: The new G4011-P monoblock shank tool is designed as a universal tool for all common grooving operations. With a reinforced shank, the G4041-P parting blade is optimised for deep grooving and parting off. Back in March, Walter introduced the G4014-P system with the “SmartLock” insert clamp to the market. SmartLock facilitates easy insert changes inside the machine – even where space is limited, e.g. in Swiss type auto lathes and multi-spindle machines – because the clamping screw is positioned on the side of the tool. This results in a time saving of up to 70 percent during an insert change.
Both of the new DX18 grooving systems lock in the cutting inserts using a Torx Plus clamping screw. On G4011-P tools, this can be operated from above or below, which simplifies inverted use. High process reliability is underpinned by the form-fit design of the DX18 insert seat: The cutting insert is centred in the seat by a V-guide. This form fit prevents incorrect mounting, reduces vibration and helps to achieve high indexing accuracy.
The G4011-P universal monoblock shank tool (25 × 25 mm) for recessing, grooving and parting off is available for cutting widths of 2–3 mm and cutting depths of 10 mm and 17.5 mm. The G4041...R/L-P parting blades with reinforced shank are available as right-hand, left-hand and contra versions with blade heights of 26 mm and 32 mm, with a choice of no internal cooling or with precision cooling on the rake and flank face. Walter is offering the G4014-P system with SmartLock in shank sizes 10–20 mm, with cutting widths 1.5–3 mm and for parting-off diameters up to 35 mm. Its qualities make it the current benchmark when it comes to the mass production of small parts.
