Huber | Martinswerk, part of the Huber Engineered Materials division of J.M. Huber Corporation, has developed a series of Martoxid® alumina based thermally conductive powders for modified polymeric systems offering unique properties and performance.
Huber’s Martoxid® TM-4000 series products are specially designed for polyamides. It is a thermally conductive filler that is the the newest grade in the series, which can increase orientation independent (isotropic) thermal conductivity in PA6 and PA66 up to 2.5 W/mK (in-plane and through plane). Also, additive levels up to 75 weight % combined with low viscosity and excellent flowability result in higher throughput during extrusion while providing lower energy consumption.
Tests conducted at Fraunhofer LBF in Darmstadt, Germany, on PA6 compounds confirms that the abrasion level of Martoxid TM-4250 is low and much less abrasive compared with fillers that have a lower Mohs hardness, such as aluminosilicate and glass fiber.
The unique engineered morphology and surface treatment qualities of Martoxid TM-4250 enable formulators to achieve superior compound performance, including excellent mechanical properties such as elongation at break and Charpy impact strength. Because of the optimized rheological behavior, the Martoxid TM-4000 series can be used in complex and integrative designs of parts, including sub-millimeter wall thicknesses via standard injection molding techniques. Furthermore, injection molding production processes showed a reduced cycle time up to 50 percent compared to standard polyamide parts as a result of a faster cooling time. There are a number of application possibilities for the Martoxid TM-4000 series, including a variety of electronics and automotive technologies.
In addition to the TM-4000 series of specialty thermally conductive products, Huber | Martinswerk produces its specialty Martoxid® calcined aluminium oxides, Compalox® specialty oxides and Pergopak® organic carriers and matting agents.
Huber | Martinswerk has also been a trusted supplier of halogen-free fire retardants and smoke suppressants for almost 40 years, manufacturing a large portfolio of value-added Hydral®, Hymod®, Martinal® Micral®, MoldX® and SB alumina trihydrates; MAGNIFIN®, Zerogen® and Vertex® magnesium hydroxides; and Kemgard® molybdate compounds for a variety of end-use applications, including reinforced polyester molding and pultrusion, engineering thermoplastics, roofing, silicone rubber, wire and cable, coatings and carpet backing.
