With China market continuously posting huge demand for additives and other high performance materials, Addivant is meeting the complex requirements of various sectors in terms of performance and sustainability. As Irfaan Foster, Global Commercial Manager of Addivant explained: "The Chinese market is rapidly changing and innovating. And this is very much apparent in the various sectors ,like food packaging, where there is pressing concern for safety, supply reliability and other requirements." For the food packaging sector, Addivant placed emphasis on the benefits of its breakthrough nonylphenol-free stabiliser WESTON® 705, which is becoming the industry standard for polyethylene (PE) food packaging and allows PE resin producers to comply with China’s new GB9685-2016 food contact law. WESTON® 705 has secured final approval for food contact in China. Approved earlier by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), WESTON® 705 phosphite antioxidant that can be used in high density polyethylene (HDPE) from 1500ppm to 2000ppm and removes the limitation on contact with high alcohol food types.

There is also the automotive industry in China, which is now the world’s largest domestic automobile market. Mr. Foster sees the automotive industry in China implementing stricter standards. "China is the world’s largest domestic automobile market and the country produced 18 million units in 2016 alone. We see major trends directed at lightweighting and lowering emissions," Mr. Foster added. Addivant`s introduced at the exhibition its next-generation, ultra-low emissive anti-scorch antioxidants for polyurethane (PUR) foams. NAUGARD® FOAMPLUS LE solutions enable compliance with the most stringent vehicle indoor air quality (VIAQ) standards being implemented globally.
Investment in fast-growing region
Addivant plans further expansion and this investment aims to meet growing demand for high performance materials meeting strict industry standards. "Several capacity expansions within the next six months are being announced affecting our markets in Europe and Asia," Mr. Foster elaborated.
According to Dr. Martin Favlik, Global Director of Business Development: "While there is no fixed timeline to our planned investments, it is very clear that Addivant has the commitment to move forward in Asia and other potential markets." China remains Addivant's biggest market today but Southeast Asia is also on the pipeline as another important market. In addition, tough competition, Dr. Favlik stated that competition is met with a strategy to innovate and Addivant has been successful in coming up with breakthrough solutions to improve safety of the products and enhance sustainable processes.
