PLASTINDIA 2018 opens its doors to thousands of visitors who saw an impressive range of technologies, high performance materials and finished products in one massive venue. The trade show, which runs from February 7 to 12, features 2,000 exhibitors occupying 125,000 sq.m. of space in Gandhinagar, Ahmedabad. Around 200,000 registered visitors are expected to arrive to witness this exhibition which has become the world’s 3rd biggest plastics event.
The ceremony marking the opening of PLASTINDIA was attended by government officials and representatives from leading organisations including Shri Vijay Rupani, Chief Minister of Gujarat; Shri Suresh Prabhu, Minister of Commerce & Industries of India; Shri Saurabhbhai Patel, Energy Minister of Gujarat; Dr. J.N. Singh, Chief Secretary of Gujarat; Shri Avinash Joshi, Managing Director of Opal; Shri Parindu K. Bhagat, Ind. Director of IOCL. Officials of the Plastindia Foundation, the event’s organisers, were also present including K.K. Seksaria, President of Plastindia Foundation; M.P. Taparia, Chairman of National Advisory Board; and Rajeev Chitalia, Chairman of the National Executive Council.
Each guest provided an interesting assessment and prospects on India’s plastics and chemical industry. Mr. Taparia cited PLASTINDIA as a venue that provides more options to plastics processors and a most appropriate platform for visitors who would want to connect with the suppliers. He also mentioned that the exhibition presents the biggest showcase of finished goods from Indian manufacturers. Mr. Joshi mentioned the important contribution of the plastics and chemical industry to India and how it has supported all the other sectors. With India’s petrochemical industry seen to grow by at least 10%, more opportunities will open up for the industrial sector. Mr. Bhagat mentioned how PLASTINDIA has brought together all stakeholders in the industry to find solutions to ease living conditions, in particular the effect of plastics on human lives and the environment. He also cited the move towards digitalisation that has the potential of creating more opportunities for those in the plastics industry.
Interesting highlights and features
PLASTINDIA 2018 present new highlights aimed at educating the public on the important applications of plastics and these can be found at Hall 3 for the Medical Pavilion and Hall 12A for the 3D Printing presentations, Hall 14 for the Recycling Pavilion and just outside Hall 3 is the Innovation Pavilion for Geotextiles, Composites, Solar as well as on Food and Sports. The 5th Edition of PROPLAST, the “one of its kind” platform that showcases India’s growing plastics processing capabilities to the entire world, also serves as one of the highlights. The Plasticon Awards, which recognises excellence in plastics, is also scheduled to take place during the exhibition.
The unique Business-2-Business networking opportunity called “Meet-2-Trade: The Reverse Buyer Seller Meet” is organised by the exhibition’s organiser, Plastindia Foundation, in association with one of its founder member Plexcouncil. The objective of “Meet-2-Trade” is to invite a select 600 international buyers to connect and transact with the exhibitors. This initiative aims to offer a win-win proposition to both parties and create a strong platform for them to strike business alliances and create long term associations for continued trade.
