Plastics recycling and the circular economy
China’s decision to prohibit the import of solid waste from other countries, and its policies designed to promote development of renewable resources represent only the beginning of some structural changes. More sustainable development and environmental protection policies are bound to come. In this new era of the circular economy, China highly values the development of the renewable resources industry. What is more, recycling technologies are constantly evolving and improving, providing a boost to the industry. During the exhibition, a seminar on “Plastics Recycling & Circular Economy Conference and Showcase” on May 20, 2019 (the day before CHINAPLAS 2019 opens) will be held.

Integrating conference and exhibition elements, the one-day, specialised event will feature more than 20 expert presenters, and is expected to attract more than 300 elite attendees from the plastics, rubber and packaging industries. The conference is built around three themes: “Material Science for Sustainability”, “Recycling Technology” and “Environmental Packaging”. Topics will cover the production and current applications of recycled plastics, advances in plastics recycling technology and processing, the latest in environmentally friendly materials and additives, and how companies can save on costs through greater use of post-industrial recycled materials. Recyclers and recycled material users (including retailers and brands) will share environmental solutions and real success stories from the packaging, electrical and electronics, and automotive industries.
Interesting concurrent events
Industry practitioners who aspire to see in real life the operation of a future factory or to find solutions to practical problems can visit the “Industry 4.0 Factory of the Future” at CHINAPLAS 2019. The event is a product of combined force of the show’s organiser and core supporters of Industry 4.0 – iPlast 4.0, EUROMAP and VDMA. What makes this conference different and stand out from previous Industry 4.0 events is that visitors can personally experience the real “Industry 4.0 Factory of the Future”. There will be two themed areas, “Manufacturing Intelligence Control Room” and “Smart Factory”, to demonstrate implementable intelligent solutions. The control room will be located on the viewing deck of Hall 4.2 in the Exhibition Hall. It will display operational data recorded at both the on-site machines and a remote smart factory, while the “Smart Factory” located at Booth 4.2D01 in the “Smart Manufacturing Technology Zone” will simulate the production environment of the future manufacturing industry and demonstrate how engineers and the control room communicate through data.

Visitors can view 15 simulation scenarios – from production, management and supply chain, including shift handover, KPI monitoring at multiple production sites, and material traceability. Additionally, visitors can assess the progress towards Industry 4.0, and its practical benefits, by using the “Inject 4.0 Online Diagnosis Service” for companies and the “Inject 4.0 Online Application Engineer Evaluation” for technical personnel. Confirmed enterprises that will join in these activities include Engel, Ningbo Zhafir Plastics Machinery Co. Ltd, Sumitomo, Piovan, Matsui, TIG, and Monitor, among others.
Industrial design continues to be a popular topic at CHINAPLAS. For this year’s show, we will join forces with the Guangzhou Industrial Design Association to present “Design x Innovation”, which comprises three parts: “CMF Inspiration Walls”, “Design Forum” and “CHINAPLAS Designers’ Night”. The “CMF Inspiration Walls” reflect three key elements – Color, Materials and Finish – and they reveal some of the emerging technologies being developed to advance CMF design for plastics.

Tapping into S.E. Asia
With the continuous globalisation of economy and adjustment of global industrial specialisation, investment by countries including China in regions like Southeast Asia has been growing rapidly. In China, one of the largest manufacturing countries in the world, the central and western regions are under accelerated development, proactively undertaking the industrial transfer from the east coast. In order to build a wide network of quality resources and fully explore the new momentum in the industry, CHINAPLAS 2019, is going to act responsively, embrace new opportunities, and tap into the emerging regions.
In 2017, Guangdong Yizumi Precision Machinery Co., Ltd. commenced production in its new Indian factory and opened a showroom in Vietnam. In the same year, Ningbo Shuangma Machinery Industry Co., Ltd. established its Indian factory. Kingfa Sci. & Tech. Co. Ltd. and Guangdong Liansu Machinery Manufacturing Co., Ltd., set up factories in India. Jwell Group has opened overseas offices in Vietnam, India, Bangladesh, Turkey, and other places. As for end-user industries, the famous Chinese electronics company, Xiaomi Corporation, will set up three smartphone factories in India. Big names in China such as Haier, Kingclean, Gree and Hisense etc. consider Southeast Asian and Middle Eastern countries as popular choices for setting up overseas factories.
Benefiting from the demographic dividend and the development of labor-intensive industries, Southeast Asian regions are growing and becoming an investment hotspot. International big brands are also interested in the numerous potential markets there. Huntsman Corporation, a publicly traded global manufacturer and marketer of specialty chemicals, has opened a multi-purpose facility in Vietnam, with an aim to efficiently supply customers across the ASEAN region with high-quality electrical insulation, coatings and adhesive solutions. BASF, the world’s leading chemical company, will expand production capacity of acrylic dispersions in Malaysia, with an aim to serve growing demand in ASEAN, Australia and New Zealand markets.
CHINAPLAS always responds to the market changes promptly. The show organiser strives to expand overseas markets, running multichannel and multidirectional promotion of emerging regions like Southeast Asia through the collaboration with the media, advertisement and precision marketing. The CHINAPLAS team has visited influential associations in the Southeast Asia, such as the SME Corporation Malaysia, Thai Housewares Trade Association, Thai Tool and Die Industry Association, Thai Auto-Parts Manufacturers Association (TAPMA) and Electric Vehicle Association of Thailand. These associations all agreed to pass on information about CHINAPLAS to local enterprises. The team also participated in important local events, such as the annual dinner of MPMA Perek Branch of Malaysia, the annual dinner of the Electrical and Electronics Association of Malaysia, the 28th Asia Plastics Forum & 17th Term AFPI Conference, to have a close interaction with attending enterprises.
