The government of Indonesia is implementing measures to boost local human resources education to support the development of the fourth industrial revolution 4.

Upskilling and retraining the workforce is crucial to leverage the tremendous opportunity new technologies offer and to prepare the country for future challenges and needs. Together with Siemens Indonesia, the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) has organizing a national competition for students and a one-day national workshop for students and industry practitioners on the topic "Industry 4.0" at ITB's East Hall in Bandung.

The competition attracted 30 teams of engineering students from 10 universities across Indonesia. The event is organized by the Smart Control & Automation Laboratory of the Department of Physics Engineering, Faculty of Industrial Technology, ITB. The competition plays an important role in promoting and supporting the implementation of Industry 4.0 in Indonesia by giving access to engineering students to increase their skills and competencies in the application of industrial automation. In parallel, Siemens has organized a one-day national workshop as an opportunity for students and industry practitioners to gain insight into the latest technology in industrial automation and digitalization solutions for the energy and manufacturing sector last November.

"With the advent of new technology and the industry changing at a rapid pace, it is important that students are at par with evolving technology. The competition aims at bridging the industry-academia skill gap, providing students with practical exposure and the opportunity to hone their skill-sets. Siemens is proud to support to the engineers of tomorrow," said Pascal Dricot, Head of Digital Factory Division and Process Industries and Drives Division of PT Siemens Indonesia.

A complete range of Siemens industrial automation systems consisting PLC SIMATIC S7, IoT 2040, and TIA Portal Version 15 along with a complete range of digitalized automation service devices will be showcased at the event. The innovative design control systems provide high performance and improvement in efficiency within the industrial process. Students will be given the chance to explore and understand the improvements these devices provide, from digital planning and integrated engineering to transparent operation.

"The competition has evolved into a benchmark for all students who wish to advance their knowledge or pursue careers in industrial automation. We hope students will gain more experience through this competition which will be useful when they're entering the workforce," said ITB's Dean of Industrial Technology Faculty, Prof. Dr. Deddy Kurniadi.
