The small drill CrazyDrill Cool SST-Inox, available in the diameter range of 1 to 6 mm (.039” to .236”), is especially suitable to drill without pecking. In fact, merely one feed stroke is necessary to reach the full depth of 20 x d. This is made possible by the tool integrated helicoidally, drop shaped coolant ducts, which deliver a massive and constant coolant flow during the entire drilling operation. These ducts provide up to quadruple coolant flow. The advantage of this efficient cooling method is the prevention of overheating the cutting edges right from the beginning. Combined with the right geometry this cooling method facilitates an easier breaking of chips which in turn helps to flush them out of the flutes. These factors afford machining with higher cutting parameters (cutting speed and feed).
Furthermore, a new geometry with a chip-breaking effect in the front section of the flutes and an open flute profile in the back provide for a perfect evacuation of the micro-chips. The coating is also new and specially adapted to machine stainless materials.
CrazyMill Cool Ball Z4: The range of the milling cutters CrazyMill Cool is being expanded with a four blade VHM finishing mill in the diameter range of 1 to 8 mm (.039” to .315”) for depths up to 5 x d. Same as the two-blade version, coolant ducts integrated in the shaft provide a massive flow of coolant. This prevents overheating of the cutting edges and facilitates easy flushing of chips from the machining area. A surface finish close to grinding quality is thus achieved. Especially for the medical technology (implants) milling head lengths of up to 4.5 x d are available. With the progressive flutes (from 30º to 40º) vibration free milling, which improves the surface quality even more, is guaranteed. Due to this geometry, it is possible to use the tool on the whole cutting length from the radius to the cylindrical part.
CrazyMill Plunge&Slot: New in the range of the CrazyMill Cool cutters is a Plunge Mill in the diameter range of 1 to 8 mm (.039” to .315”) for milling depths of 2 x d. It’s strength: it plunges perpendicularly 1 x d into the material (drilling) and then progresses laterally to machine grooves and pockets. Hence it can do milling operations in smallest areas.
The special cutting edge geometry provides a stable and vibrationless “Drilling” (perpendicular plunging). A correction in the center stabilizes the middle edge (no breakout), reduces the penetration force and helps to reach increased tool life. Due to the especially designed chip space in the head of the tool, chips are evacuated into the chip flutes when plunging. The design of the flutes creates enough space for a perfect evacuation of the chips and guarantees simultaneously robust stability for the milling process.
The in the shank integrated cooling, providing a constant and massive flow, is also instrumental for an efficient chip evacuation from the milling area. The surface quality improves significantly with the milling process, reaching finishing quality. Moreover, the cooling prevents an over-heating of the cutting edges and thus guarantees long tool life and significantly higher chip removal rate compared to more conventional milling technology.
