Food ingredients Asia-China to focus on nutraceutical and natural products

OFFERING thousands of buyers and sellers a place to meet, network and discuss business developments in the country and beyond, the annual meeting of the Chinese food industry is approaching. Fi Asia-China, Hi Ni China will be held on 21-23 June, heavily focusing on the growing health market in China.
The appetite for health and natural products is fast growing in China; in 2010, the country has surpassed the US as the world's largest market for health products. In the first half of the year, import and export of health products in China recorded $1.6 billion, an increase of 24 per cent.
The Chinese market for food ingredients is still developing and China continues to enjoy a global reputation for being a low cost supplier. Fi Asia China (FiAC) has been serving the Chinese market for over 10 years, and expanding to meet the evolving demands in the Middle Kingdom.
In 2010, the first Hi Ni China took place in Shanghai, responding to the food industry's growing interest in the application of health and natural ingredients to improve product quality and consumer health.
In 2011, FiA Hi Ni China returns to Shanghai in conjunction with CPhI China and Nutraceuticals Products China. This is the biggest exhibition in China focusing on the foods, drinks, functional foods, nutraceuticals and the pharmaceutical industries. The trade show attracts more then 2,000 exhibitor and 42,000 visitors from 102 countries.
In order to serve the country's growing demand for health products and offer overseas manufacturers new opportunities for growth in the Chinese market, 'Nutraceutical Products China' (NPC) will premiere in the 2011 edition.  NPC will run alongside Fi Asia-China Hi Ni China 2011 and is dedicated to finished health foods and supplements. This is a unique platform for the nutraceutical market and will bring together new technology and knowledge.
Together with CPhI China, the region's largest show for the pharmaceutical industry, the show provides a complete insight into the functional, nutraceuticals and the pharmaceutical industries. The shows together are expected to bring over 42,000 food professionals to Shanghai, offering the industry the opportunity to network, meet new business partners and be updated on the latest developments in the industry.

Addressing the issues
A line of seminars, conferences and innovation programmes during the show will address pressing issues, and will facilitate exchange of ideas and best practices. The International Union of Food Science and Technology (IUFoST) will hold a conference during the show, bringing the best minds in academia and industry to China, to share their experiences and strategies for success.
IUFoST will tackle 'Emerging Technologies for Present and Future Foods' and a host of global experts will present their "visionary Tactics for the ingredients market place". These experts include:
Professor Paul Singh, member of the US National Academy of Engineering, whose work encompasses space food for the Mars mission and the artificial stomach
Dr. Rickey Yada, Canada Research chair of Food Protein Structure and an expert on nanotechnology
Dr. Michael Knowles, vice president of Global Scientific and Regulatory Affairs for Coca-Cola, will discuss the regulatory challenges of moving health related products into the mainstream
Dr. Bernhard Van Lengerich, General Mills, invited to address innovations in production and marketing from a company that is now marketing its products first through Facebook
The conference brings high-level critical information essential for doing business both inside and outside of China. R&D, product managers, innovation directors, small and large businesses will benefit from the critical edge offered through this international roster of acknowledged experts.
