The quest for thinner, more functional and higher quality food packaging has taken manufacturers of packaging materials beyond the border into new territories to produce products meeting stricter standards. Intelligent packages are now attempting to satisfy the many criteria of today's more demanding market. This issue carries the first part of a series of reports on plastic recycling . The first part discusses some trends in recycling with succeeding issues moving towards providing readers with the latest equipment used in recycling and information on new materials. In all these, the highly dynamic Asian region is expected to figure prominently as it takes advantage of recent and more advanced recycling techniques. We have a review of Chinaplas 2010, a big show in terms of the number of exhibitors and visitors, which was attended in full force by our editorial team. The show once again highlighted "green plastics" and brought into the limelight new opportunities in the wake of economic recovery. The show also served as ideal venue where big players announced their investments into China or into the Asian region. This year's Interplas Thailand will encounter many challenges as Thailand tries to emerge from internal political conflict. The country has been an ideal investment site for many industrial companies and a lingering political instability could very well affect public perception.(the end)
