The Opti.Breed system ensures needs-based feeding, minimizes losses and increases productivity, says WEDA Dammann & Westerkamp.

In fish farming, regular, needs-based feeding of young fish is crucial for their optimal development. Until now, there has been a lack of suitable feed dosing systems with an integrated monitoring function. This has led to problems such as when a feeder fails, the young fish are not fed properly, they develop poorly, then cannibalism occurs among the fish. To eliminate these, and to improve the feeding of young fish, WEDA Dammann & Westerkamp designed the Opti.Breed. The system is available to worldwide fish farmers.

But how it is different from other feeders?

Traditional feeders often work autonomously and without centralized monitoring. A failure often goes unnoticed immediately, which leads to underfeeding and uneven growth in fish. The result: weak fish are attacked and eaten by stronger conspecifics – a phenomenon that frequently occurs in aquaculture under these conditions. This is not only an ethical problem, but also leads to considerable economic losses.

No overfeeding, no waste
The Opti.Breed system enables individualized, needs-based feeding of young fish with very small quantities, controlled via a central computer. The system monitors and regulates all feeders simultaneously, ensuring precise, even feeding of the fish. On the one hand, the fish are not overfed; on the other hand, no expensive feed is wasted by sinking to the bottom unused because the portions are distributed according to the feeding curve.

The Opti.Breed features a dosing system specifically engineered developed by WEDA for the accurate dispensing of minimal quantities of feed.

Specially developed dosing system
The heart of Opti.Breed is a new dosing system that has been designed by WEDA for the precise dosing of very small amounts of feed. The system enables the exact adjustment of the feed quantity to the needs of the young fish – from the earliest to the later growth phase. The feed quantities are individually adjusted via the feed curve, from small quantities for the youngest fish to larger quantities for growing fish. If a feeder fails, the system operator immediately receives an error message on their PC or mobile phone so that the fault can be rectified immediately.

A 24/7 monitoring function ensures continuous safety; immediate receipt of error messages

The advantages of the Opti.Breed system
- Complete control via a central computer: This ensures uniform and continuous feeding of the young fish.
- Continuous feeding as required: The fish are fed according to their growth phase.
- Feeding of very small quantities possible: Particularly important for the smallest fish in the first stages of life.
- Specially developed dosing system: Specially developed for the precise dosing of very small quantities to ensure exact feeding.
- Optional weighing: Precise control of the feed quantity.
- 24/7 monitoring function with alarm: Maximum safety thanks to continuous monitoring and immediate error messages.
- Saves time and resources: Reduces the need for manual monitoring and saves valuable staff time and cost-intensive feed thanks to automatic feeding.
- Optimum cost control: High-quality feed is extremely cost-intensive. Thanks to the central control system, feed consumption can be displayed, optimised and strategically planned
- Avoidance of cannibalism: Uniform feeding reduces irregular growth and cannibalism.

Opti.Breed is an ideal solution for modern and efficient young fish farming. The system guarantees needs-based feeding, minimizes losses and increases productivity. With it, WEDA Dammann & Westerkamp is setting new standards in aquaculture and offering fish farmers worldwide a sustainable and forward-looking technology.
