Step into the future of machining with HERMLE's groundbreaking Generation 2 (GEN2) series. HERMLE is proud to introduce the first three models of this cutting-edge lineup—the C 650, C 32, and C 42. These machines do not merely represent the next step in technological evolution; they redefine the very concept, delivering unprecedented efficiency, precision, and sustainability to the medium machining segment. With their bold new platform, advanced control systems, and a host of innovative features, the GEN2 series is set to revolutionise the industry and establish new standards of excellence.

HERMLE is excited to unveil the first three models of its innovative Generation 2 (GEN2) series at this year's Open House event. These selected models—the C 650, C 32, and C 42—are designed to cater specifically to the medium machining segment, chosen for their optimal size and expansive working area. These machines are engineered to offer superior performance, enhanced by the latest advancements in control technology and user-friendly interfaces, making them ideal for a wide range of machining applications.

Over the next 18 months, all HERMLE machine models will transition to the GEN2 architecture as part of a meticulously planned development process. This strategic move underscores HERMLE's commitment to continuous improvement and innovation. The GEN2 series is not just an upgrade; it is a comprehensive overhaul that reflects HERMLE’s dedication to providing top-of-the-line solutions to meet the evolving demands of the machining industry. With the GEN2 series, HERMLE is not just keeping pace with technological advancements; it is setting the benchmark for what is possible in modern machining.

Design and Mechanical Integrity

The GEN2 models have undergone minor visual adjustments, particularly to the front panels and machine lettering, now standardised across all models. Despite these aesthetic changes, the fundamental mechanics crucial to the precision and long-term accuracy of HERMLE products remain unchanged. This ensures that the key performance values of the machines remain exceptionally high, reinforcing HERMLE's dominance in the field of 5-axis technology.

Technological Advancements and Efficiency

GEN2 signifies a pivotal transition towards a future-oriented machine generation, incorporating numerous state-of-the-art software and hardware components. The entire electrical architecture has been overhauled to integrate ProfiNet as the communication bus, while a significant number of sensors have been upgraded to the international standard IO Link. Additionally, the drive network of Heidenhain machines has been completely revised and equipped with the latest generation of converters, enhancing overall machine efficiency.

The new platform introduces groundbreaking technologies and functions, including advanced interface technology and comprehensive evaluation and diagnostic capabilities. These features facilitate enhanced service analysis in the event of errors, thereby improving maintenance efficiency and machine uptime.

Enhanced Energy Efficiency

The energy efficiency of GEN2 machines has been significantly enhanced, particularly in the cooling units of the switch cabinet and spindle, in conjunction with high-pressure systems. Future models will feature auxiliary units with frequency-controlled drives, enabling demand-driven and more energy-efficient closed-loop control. This not only offers financial benefits to customers but also contributes to climate protection by reducing energy consumption.

The cooling lubricant (CL) management system has been entirely redesigned. This optimisation enhances CL filtration, improving cleanliness and extending the lifespan of the coolant. These advancements further underscore HERMLE's commitment to sustainability and operational efficiency.

Advanced Control Systems

Future GEN2 machines will be available with both Heidenhain TNC7 and Siemens Sinumerik ONE controls. These advanced control technologies provide superior machine operation, ensuring precision and reliability in various machining applications.

Key Features of the HERMLE GEN2 Machines

The HERMLE GEN2 machines boast several key highlights, including increased energy efficiency and a complete architecture changeover in the drive network, ensuring future-proof features. They are built on a new platform with cutting-edge technology, offering new capabilities and functions. The machines come equipped with advanced evaluation options, precise measuring systems, and a fieldbus level from ProfiNet. Additionally, they incorporate sensors on IO-LINK and maintain compatibility with the current generation. The new energy-efficient CL concept, combined with a new drive generation and intelligent transmission technology, enhances performance. Powerful diagnostics options and state-of-the-art interface technology, along with an extensive universal spindle portfolio, provide superior control with TNC7 or Sinumerik ONE.Advanced Control Technology: Options for TNC7 or Sinumerik ONE for superior control.

Compact ZM 30 Additional Magazine

HERMLE also introduces the ZM 30, a newly designed, compact additional magazine available with the GEN2 models C 650, C 32, and C 42. This magazine increases tool capacity by 30 tools while occupying nearly 50% less space than conventional magazines. It integrates seamlessly into the machine enclosure, ensuring full-service accessibility and straightforward commissioning. The ZM 30 can be equipped with a touch screen operating station and a tool identification instrument, enhancing HERMLE’s convenient tool management system, which can be accessed via the additional magazine or the machine control.

Conclusion

HERMLE’s Generation 2 machines represent a significant leap forward in machining technology, combining enhanced efficiency, cutting-edge technology, and superior control systems. These advancements solidify HERMLE's position at the forefront of the machining industry, delivering unparalleled precision, reliability, and sustainability.
