The automotive industry in Indonesia stands as a cornerstone of the nation’s economy, playing a pivotal role in its development. Indonesia, the ASEAN region’s largest vehicle market and second only to Thailand in production, anticipates substantial growth in the years ahead. By 2026, Indonesia’s vehicle production is projected to reach 1.62 million units, up from 1.39 million units in 2021, marking an average annual growth of 2.3%. This sustained growth reflects Indonesia's attraction as a manufacturing base for global automotive giants, especially in automobiles, motorcycles, and auto parts.
As the country commits to its Net Zero Emission (NZE) goals by 2060, the automotive industry is poised for transformation. This commitment is sparking a shift towards producing electric vehicles (EVs) and fuel-efficient, low-emission vehicles, opening doors for manufacturers in the auto parts, components, and automotive plastics sectors. The Indonesian government's push towards sustainable practices further supports a strong market for eco-friendly vehicle solutions, paving the way for future automotive innovations.
Trends in flexible production and EV solutions
To address these emerging trends and support the shift toward sustainable automotive production, the 2024 ASEAN Advanced Automotive Manufacturing Summit - Flexible Production & EV Solutions, returned to Cikarang. This event, launched by Ringier Events in 2023, gathered industry leaders from across the globe to exchange insights, explore technological advancements, and discuss the latest trends shaping the automotive sector in Indonesia and ASEAN.
This annual summit brings together foreign and Indonesia-based professionals to dive into the latest production techniques, focusing on the entire parts and components manufacturing chain. The event provides the latest developments in high-performance materials, machine, and precision tools, testing equipment, metal and plastics machinery, e-mobility innovations, robotics, automation, and augmented reality applications. Valuable trends and insights from the industry experts are particularly relevant for automotive and motorcycle production in the region.
The Summit’s business partners are CP Chemie Resources and Radici Plastics (Suzhou) Co. Ltd. This collaboration enabled both companies to capitalise on their respective strengths to offer enhanced value to customers across multiple industries.
With support from notable associations, including the Indonesia Automotive Parts & Components Industries Association (GIAMM), the Indonesian Society for Quality (ISQ), and the Indonesia ISO Expert Association, the summit underscores the importance of collaboration and industry standards in achieving sustainable growth.
