Cosmo Films Ltd., India’s leading maker of biaxially oriented polypropylene and thermal lamination film, is reportedly looking at Africa for the location of its next production plant.
At this year's Plastindia, Cosmo Films President Pankaj Poddar said that the company is in the process of looking for an appropriate location for its proposed plant, either in North or East Africa. The company is expected to make final decision by middle of this year while target completion is by March 2014.
Mr. Poddar also said that the company is deciding between setting up a subsidiary or forming a joint venture with a local partner for this new project. Cosmo Films currently has production facilities in the United States, the Netherlands and South Korea. All the overseas plants comprise single line for manufacturing thermal lamination film. For Africa, the company plans to manufacture BOPP films there given market preference for such product.
Cosmo Films has been expanding its capacity, setting up a new facility in Shindra, India and expanding existing plant in Karjan, india. "These expansion projet and the new plant raised our capacity to 170,000 metric tonnes yearly," according to Mr Poddar.
