Egypt seeks $11.7b for agro-industrial plans

EGYPT is planning to increase LE 66 billion ($ 11.7b ) worth of investments for its agro - industrial zones project until 2020, Amr Assal, the head of the country''s Industrial Development Authority (IDA) said. Assal explained that projects for the zones will include many agricultural industries like rice, wheat, dried and frozen vegetables, edible oils, poultry and juices for both local consumption and export. The public private partnership programme will potentially occupy 1.3 million feddans (0.54 million hectares) across the country once completed. The IDA plans to hold a workshop in April with different investors to share the findings of its project study. "So far we''ve had around 30 Egyptian investors and other investors from Saudi Arabia who are also keen to take part," Assal said.
