The impact of climate change and other issues related to environment degradation has pushed the world into thinking of safer and greener alternatives. It is no denying that climate change has the potential to cause massive damage in lives and properties that the world is now placing more emphasis on reducing the carbon emission. Aggravated by the reality of diminishing stock of fuel and fast-rising oil prices, many countries are also seeking other options. The difficulty in disposing of plastics, which traditionally is made from crude oil, has created an alternative material known as "襜ioplastics" which can serve as better, and eco-friendly, alternative to conventional plastics. EcoInnovAsia 2008 is an international conference and exhibition on biofuel and bioplastics organized by National Innovation Agency of Thailand. This event, scheduled from October 3 - 5, 2008 at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center in Bangkok, will showcase over 20 presentations from world leading companies and renowned researchers in this industry. Moreover, there will be a panel discussion and exciting exhibitions to present the latest products and applications for biofuel and bioplastics. The National Innovation Agency (NIA) has been involved in the development of bioplastics in Thailand right from the beginning. In 2006, InnoBioPlast was held and served as the very first international conference on bioplastics in the region. Moreover, the Thailand Bioplastics Industry Association (TBIA) has also been established through NIA' s initiative and the NIA-initiated 褺ioplastics Industries Development Roadmap' is well on its way to being implemented. Seeing the potential and opportunities in biofuel and bioplastics, the NIA decided to organize EcoInnovAsia 2008. Visitors to EcoInnovAsia will witness the many innovations in the use of both biofuel and bioplastics. Mazda, a leading automobile maker, is bringing its new hydrogen-powered model exclusively to exhibit in this show. This innovative car, Mazda 5, will also demonstrate how bioplastics can be incorporated into the automotive interior parts. NEC will display the application of bioplastics in their electronics parts while Unitika, a leading plastic company, will put on show its latest range of bioplastics products. The Thailand Ministry of Energy will have a display on the country' s implementation policies and various support mechanisms to encourage companies to go into these areas. A presentation on the recent developments and measures in line with the government' s ambitious plan to impose E85 biofuel is also included in the program. This event can serve as an effective platform for discussions in the field of biofuel and bioplastics especially in popularizing technological trends and promoting investments. By bringing all stakeholders in the country and in the region together during this conference, NIA also anticipates the buildup of collaboration through the networking of decision-makers participating in this event.
