THE world's lightest half-liter polystyrene bottle ?weighing a mere 7.5 grams ?has been created using a conven瑃ional stretch blow-molding machine by BASF in cooperation with Krones. Since poly瑂tyrene has a lower density than PET, it can be used to produce bottles that weigh less but have the same wall thickness. This translates into lower costs and less consumption of resources. Owing to the special properties of this plastic, BASF recommends the new polystyrene type (PS BX 3580) specifi琧ally for containers used for milk products.
