During the sixth edition of MTA VIETNAM 2009, about 226 companies from over 21 countries gathered in a 5,550 square-meters exhibition space at Saigon Exhibition and Convention Center (SECC) in Ho Chi Minh city. The three-day affair was organized by Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry/VCCI Exhibition Services Ltd Co., the Vietnam Government and Industry partners. Below are excerpts from some of the key players in the market during a one-on-one interview conducted by a representative of International Metalworking News for Asia.
This is the second time FARO is exhibiting in HCMC. We opened our rep office in Vietnam because it is important to show our customers that we are around and reiterate our commitment to them. We have seen our portable solutions generate a lot of interests here at MTA. You know, we have been getting very good response in Japan and South Asia as well. That is why after seeing our customer base grow in South Asia we have set up our headquarters in Singapore for quicker response time and faster service. There are a couple of companies engaged in portable solutions but Faro is different in terms of sheer volume we are leaders in the market and we are a dedicated company engaged full time in developing and offering portable solutions to a very wide range of industries. I think each company has their own strengths, we distinguish ourselves not just by the wide range of products but also by our commitment to our customers. You won't find many U.S. companies opening a factory in Asia, but that reflects the measure of our commitment. We also have a rep office in every country where we are present in, and we have local FARO personnel dedicated to service our customers. We are still building our customer base here in Vietnam but our Japanese customers, Honda and Yamaha, have already established their presence here. We want to access the second and third tier vendors who are servicing Honda Yamaha and gradually strengthen our base in Vietnam. Our company motto is "knowledge is the fore runner of profit." In Asia, whenever we set up an office the personnel receives training in Singapore and then we have a group of application engineers who have to constantly upgrade their knowledge and undergo training on a regular basis. So we have two distinct groups: Sales Marketing and Application Engineers, who are constantly coordinating with our office in the U.S., which has more experience and knowledge and they are upgrading their knowledge based on emerging trends and information required to service the diverse industries we deal with, so they can provide efficient solutions. Faro is not spared from the economic recession just like other companies. We try to counter the recession by showing to customers our products and helping existing customers if they have any issues, and providing additional services to show our commitment to them in time of need. So when economy goes up, we have ensured not just their continued loyalty but won more customers.
