The integrated product offering enhances accuracy and overall efficiency, and simplifies packaging processes

MULTIVAC raises the bar in weight checking accuracy, packaging efficiency, and operational security with the integration of checkweighers with its packaging machines and labeling systems.

Integrating the checkweighers in the HMI 2.0 user interface of the company’s packaging machines not only simplifies the operation but also reduces the interaction between man and machine while boosting the level of automation and process reliability. It allows users to automatically control the settings for the checkweigher and the metal detector, if one is used, by simply loading a new recipe in the HMI 2.0 control terminal. Selecting a recipe for a new product batch at the packaging machine changes all requisite settings on the checkweigher. The user interface of the packaging machine can be used to start and stop the checkweighers and displays status messages such as “ready,” “stopped,” or “producing.”

Multivac checkweigher (MR 822)

Checkweighers as used in the food sector verify compliance with specified fill amounts as required by finished packaging regulations. Outside the food industry, checkweighers are used in weight determination, which is in turn necessary for quantity control of high-quality bulk goods or containers. Integrating the checkweigher in the line control helps achieve high overall equipment efficiency and improve product flow control.

Designed as dual-range weighers, Multivac’s checkweighers can support an unusually wide range of officially calibrated weights. They are available in three weight ranges covering 10 grams to 6,000 grams.

The frame structure was designed and constructed using Multivac Marking & Inspection’s many years of experience in building conveyor belt labelers. Besides being designed for rigidity against flexing, the floor stands can resist torsion and reduce vibration to ensure maximum weighing accuracy.  The transport conveyor and weighing modules are mounted on a twin-beam carrier, which can support almost all conveyor module configurations.

The checkweighers can be equipped with metal detectors that work with all types of metals, including iron, stainless steel, copper, aluminum, brass, bronze, and titanium. These can be adapted to specific applications and sensitivity.

The checkweigher has a twin-track version for use with multitrack packaging lines. One control terminal manages both tracks in this version to provide the advantages of in-depth line integration. Both tracks can handle simultaneous weight checking to ensure high output. The convergence of both lines and discharge of the packs through a handling module also optimize the packaging process.
