Quaser commits to move ahead of the pack

Liao catapulted into the position only last year after the sudden demise of his predecessor and company founder, Edward Shar. Shar's tireless engineering, management and marketing skills were responsible for bringing the company to its current ranking position. Quaser is among Taiwan's top 10 machine tool makers with a US$97 million turnover, a more than 49% increase, compared to the previous year's US$65 million. Mindful of Shar's leadership legacy, Liao, a trained mechanical engineer, worked for 28 years on the shop floor and in the industrial management. As a team player, he is determined to build a strategic mindset of his own. The industry's moving as 撘fast as we cut?he says, a colorful turn of phrase influenced by the rock and pop music of his youth. This was generational music that like fast cars has remained his lifelong passion; but no more than that of designing, building and marketing machinery. 揧ou抳e got to be in tune with a niche market. But Liao says they are now actively trying to extend its reach and presence into new markets with a range of machining centers, such as vertical horizontal and 5 axes machines. He mentions that this new policy could be trending towards America and even closer to home in South East Asia. He points at the big difference in the European, American and Asian markets. Asia with its large demand for cheap labor, doesn抰 invest in high-value machines, while Europe with more respect for technology is ready to pay for a quality and high-value machine. Functionally, while machine models and specifications vary from market to market, all Quaser's machines meet Europe's demanding requirements and standards. 揙ur costs are higher because of the quality components we use and the European norms we follow in production,"he stresses. 揃ut that doesn抰 mean some companies in Asia don抰 intend moving up to the next level - one that only a company like Quaser can meet.
