Royal DSM is undertaking another mission to feed under-nourished children around the globe, this time with World Vision as its partner. Together these organisations will do their share to bring down the number of children under five – about 165 million worldwide – who are stunted as a result of under nutrition. With their knowledge, resources and reach, the DSM-World Vision partnership aims to make a significant difference in this area by 2016, by fortifying staple foods like maize, wheat and rice with essential micronutrients. Food fortification has been recognised by economists and health experts as one of the safest and most cost-effective ways to improve the nutrition of whole populations
The flagship is the Miller's Pride project in Tanzania's Dar es Salaam, which will fortify maize flour with essential micronutrients to feed millions.
Aside from fortifying food, both DSM and World Vision will help millers to build business expertise, improve food safety and increase markets and profits for the millers.
