The Kingdom of Bahrain's emerging plastic industry has been supplying the Middle East region and the rest of the world with diverse products. The current construction boom and growing demand from the manufacturing sector are pushing plastics manufacturers to expand their production capacity by investing in bigger facilities and more advanced technologies and equipment. International Plastics News-Middle East (IRNE) talked to Mr. Salman Ramadan, General Manager of Gulf Plastic Indus tries W.L.L. , a leading manufacturer of thermoplastic pipes and fittings, on the company's expansion program.

IRNE: How long has the company been in operation? What are GPI's major products and their markets?
Ramadan: Gulf Plastic Industries W.L.L. (GPI) is a well established manufacturing company for thermoplastic pipes and fittings. Founded in 1968, the company is the first industrial venture established in the Kingdom of Bahrain by a private sector. We are also considered the first and leading manufacturer of thermoplastic pipes and fittings including those of uPVC, CPVC, PPR & LDPE.
About 30% of our products are supplied or distributed in the local market, while 70% is for export to neighboring countries such as Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA), Qatar, Kuwait, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Jordan, Yemen, Pakistan and India.

IRNE: What were the efforts launched by GPI to maintain its strong position as a leading manufacturer of thermoplastic pipes and fittings in the region?

Ramadan: GPI is committed to excellence in every aspect of our business operations. We implement continuous training and development of human resources, investing on the realistic adaptation of modern technologies, upgrading of the manufacturing facilities, formulation of internal policies and procedures, creation of a healthy work environment and attending to any customer's needs for their complete satisfaction. Ramadan: The company laboratory is one of the best in the region and completely quipped with modern testing apparatus. Our products are also proven and quality tested internationally by numerous well-known independent laboratories from Bahrain, Kuwait, UK and USA in order to meet the stipulated high international standards.
