SIDEL has recently announced an online PET savings calculator designed to cut the amount of PET used in beverage bottles around the world.
The leading provider of PET solutions for liquid packaging hopes this new initiative would help producers save money while at the same time boosting environmental footprint. The PET calculator will enable beverage producers and bottlers to calculate savings on their own based on their own production parameters.
According to Vincent Le Guen, vice president of Packaging at Sidel, even though the benefits of lightweighting PET bottles are well known in the beverage industry, many producers do not leverage innovative new bottle designs to achieve significant cost savings. He said that new bottle designs, in particular those for water and carbonated soft drinks (CSD), can help cut raw material usage, save costs, and improve environmental footprint. These new designs can be easily applied to production lines because they involve minor aesthetic variations on existing designs and do not result in a substantial difference in the end-consumer experience.
One of these innovative bottle designs is the RightWeight? bottle concept, a proprietary bottle design process used by Sidel. It yields a lightweight bottle that is strong enough to survive the global supply chain, looks good at the point of sale, and offers a great consumer experience. The design can be applied across categories.
Sidel also offers the range of Sidel StarLite? bottle bases for water and CSD.
Global packaging services to Sidel customers include packaging and preform design, packaging optimisation, packaging qualification for industrial production, and liquid-package interaction analysis. His team has launched several bottle design innovations in the past 18 months, including the RightWeight.adidas
