A competitive edge thanks to concentrated cutting technology on attractive terms. This is the idea behind the new generation of BySmart Fiber. Bystronic’s newly developed fiber laser is aimed at sheet metal processing companies that want to establish themselves on the market with a cutting system that opens up the full potential of fiber laser technology: a high parts output, a wide spectrum of applications, suitable automation solutions, and all this at an attractive price level.
With the BySmart Fiber, users step directly into fiber laser cutting technology without high investment barriers or lengthy detours. The new machine platform provides excellent cutting results thanks to state-of-the-art Bystronic technology. To achieve this, the BySmart Fiber's performance package focuses on what makes a fiber laser attractive to users: Cutting sheet metal parts as quickly as possible but also in high quality.
Higher profit per cut part
Depending on the production spectrum and customer requirements, the BySmart Fiber is available with laser sources of 2, 3, 4, and 6 kilowatts. The 6 kilowatt laser source enables users to achieve a maximum increase in cutting speed. For example, by up to 70 percent compared to a fiber laser with 4 kilowatts when cutting 3 millimeter stainless steel. The speed advantage is even more pronounced in comparison to a 6 kilowatt CO2 laser. Here, the 6 kilowatt BySmart Fiber is three times faster when cutting 3 millimeter stainless steel. Depending on the material and the sheet thickness, the parts output can thus be increased by up to 300 percent.
BySmart Fiber users can process a wide range of materials, from steel, stainless steel, and aluminum, right through to non-ferrous metals, such as copper and brass. This versatile material mix is complemented by comparatively low operating costs and low maintenance requirements. Hence, for users whose range of applications lies in the thin to medium sheet thickness range, this means: faster cutting, lower costs, and higher profit per part.
Upon request, Bystronic offers the Power Cut Fiber function for an extended range of applications right up to high material thicknesses. This enables users to achieve particularly high quality cuts in material thicknesses up to 30 millimeters. This opens up further possibilities for cutting jobs in thick materials, where the finish of the cut parts plays an important role.
High cutting quality with every material
However, fast cutting speeds alone do not accomplish the objective. The fiber laser’s powerful output must be optimally integrated into the cutting process. To achieve this, Bystronic equips the BySmart Fiber with the latest generation cutting head. In order to consistently achieve the best cutting performance in spite of a broad material mix, users flexibly adapt the Bystronic cutting head to varying materials and their characteristics. Users choose between two focal points of the laser beam depending on the sheet thickness and material. This enables the BySmart Fiber to consistently achieve the optimal processing quality in spite of varying sheet metal thicknesses and materials.
In addition, upon request, Bystronic equips the 6 kilowatt version of the BySmart Fiber with the Cut Control function. Cut Control monitors the entire cutting process. When a cutting tear occurs, Cut Control automatically stops the laser. Subsequently the cut is repeated. This enables users to reduce the risk of miscuts and thus prevent rejected parts.
Automation for every order situation
Bystronic is also opening up the new generation of BySmart Fiber for the integration of versatile automation solutions. Because for many users, automated laser cutting is increasingly becoming the key factor for success. Automation solutions for fiber laser cutting offer a decisive competitive advantage: they increase the capacity utilization of the laser cutting system and reduce the user’s workload with regard to the time-consuming material handling. Both these factors mean that cutting jobs are performed faster and at lower cost.
Users can choose between Bystronic’s loading and unloading solutions ByTrans Cross, BySort, ByTrans, ByTrans Extended, and Byloader. In addition, third-party automation solutions can also be integrated. Depending on the order situation, the Bystronic systems organize the material flow fully and semi-automatically while also offering sufficient space at the laser cutting system to process smaller orders manually whenever required.
Simple operation using a touch screen
Operators control the cutting process on the BySmart using a 22-inch touch screen. This makes laser cutting as simple as using a smartphone for everyday tasks. With the ByVision Cutting user interface, everything is controlled with just a few swipes of the finger: upload cutting plans, start the process, and the BySmart Fiber gets going. ByVision Cutting accesses an extensive database that includes the parameters for all the common types of sheet metal. Taking the material, sheet thickness, and part geometry into account, it generates the ideal cutting process.
While cutting, ByVision Cutting tracks all the processes on the machine and provides the user with the most important process and machine data on-screen. Hence, the user always has an overview of all the relevant information: the current cutting plan, the position of the cutting head, and the machine status.
Software for the ideal manufacturing flow
With BySoft 7, Bystronic offers the ideal software package in order to ensure the BySmart Fiber’s seamless integration into the sheet metal processing chain. This allows the overall concept of an optimized manufacturing environment to be established around the laser cutting system, in which users can manufacture the finished sheet metal part in a rapid and efficient process, from incoming order to finished part.
With BySoft 7, users design and process sheet metal parts and assemblies in a high-performance 3D CAD environment. With its intuitive operating concept, the software also supports the fast creation of cutting programs. In addition, BySoft 7 plans and monitors the connected manufacturing processes and offers fast access to all the relevant process data.
