UAE developing food security systems

With its plan to achieve higher levels of food security, the UAE continues to develop sustainable and integrated food security systems using new technologies to innovate solutions to the challenges of securing food sources. This according to a report in fooddubai.com.

The Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority (ADFCA) aims to achieve agricultural sustainability and to support scientific research to enhance food security mechanisms, said its director, Saeed Al Bahari Salem Al Ameri.

‘Bustani’

In 2019, the Smart Home Farming Showcase called 'Bustani' ('garden' in Arabic) showcases solutions at Masdar City's Eco-Villa prototype. It demonstrated emerging farming solutions that are meant to get people to cultivate and grow their own food at home, to help provide sustainable solutions and manage food security.

Some of the practices under sustainable agriculture include vertical farming, hydroponics, organic farming and controlled environment agriculture to grow local fruits and vegetables with minimal resources. Read more
