Water smart drip irrigation symposium

Maillefer''s drip irrigation pipe symposium held in Ecublens, Switzerland in July 2008 allowed the company to interact with participants and demonstrate its complete PIL 032 extrusion line. The symposium discussed the company''s different in-line dripper designs and their uses. Four line models were presented to meet a variety of drip irrigation lateral requirements. These include: PIL 032 1RT for thin wall irrigation laterals with round drippers; PIL 032 1RH for heavy wall irrigation laterals with round drippers (option for 3 layers); PIL 032 1FT for thin wall irrigation laterals with flat drippers; and PIL 032 1FH for heavy wall irrigation laterals with flat drippers (option for 3 layers). The option for three layers exists to help address the issue of recycling. The PIL lines for heavy wall pipe have a configuration for processing regrind materials in the middle layer. In this case, the innermost and outermost layers are composed virgin polymer. Use of regrind is both favorable on the environment and economical. Also, a complete heavy wall drip irrigation pipe line was shown. The high performance equipment is capable of extruding a variety of PE blends. For demonstration purposes a production run of 16 x 0.6 mm irrigation laterals with 220mm emitter spacing and a production speed of 120 m/min was organized. This is one of many pipe constructions possible on the line.
