International Metalworking News for Asia

The June issue of International Metalworking News for Asia is loaded with insight on some of the most important announcements and initiatives to come out of Vietnam's automotive industry. One of the most interesting Features is the Boardroom Connection interview of Toyota Motor Vietnam Co., Ltd’s General Manager, which talks about the company’s efforts in in expanding localisation by seeking investments from domestic auto parts companies, including Vietnam Motorisation in 2025. The ASEAN Automotive & Motorcycle Parts Manufacturing Summit (AMM), organised by Ringier Trade Media, held its first conference in Vietnam and hosted over 200 participants and 26 speakers from 13 different countries. As a partner of the conference, TRUMPF participated with a presentation speech and an exhibition booth, providing expertise and innovative solutions for manufacturers and suppliers. Also don’t miss Tony Vintura, founder and CEO of Datapixel’s view on intelligent metrology. We are now at the beginning of a radical change in the way of capturing, analysing and integrating the information of products and processes of industrial manufacturing. According to him, metrology is capable of offering solutions increasingly integrated in the digital factory. No surprise but emerging technologies are bringing huge benefits to the metals industry by enhancing operational efficiencies, reducing costs and improving sustainability. A fundamentally new metal 3D printing technology, Intelligent Layering goes one step further by promising the reduction of final part cost by as much as 80 percent through low machine and material costs, and creative software design. Of course, there’s plenty beyond lasers, metrology and additive manufacturing going on out in the metalworking industry, and the diverse topics covered in this issue’s columns reflect that. Aluminium is one of the most widely used materials in automotive engineering, alongside steel and various plastics. Bonding steel and aluminium components, however, can be a problem. A solution has now been found by the Institut für Integrierte Produktion Hannover (IPH) gGmbH together with Laser Zentrum Hannover (LZH). The result is a tailored hybrid tube, made from aluminium and steel, which can even be given the relevant shape in an internal high-pressure forming process. If you have other topics in mind, we want you to let us know. Drop us a line and tell us what you want.
