International Plastics News for Asia

Significant innovations in the plastics industry today are those benefitting the medical field. There seems to be no limit to what injection moulding is capable of, and breakthrough methods have successfully satisfied the wide-ranging needs of the medical industry. New blown film lines offer processors with better options and higher level of efficiency in their operations. The current portfolio of blown film extrusion lines is a reflection of how this sector has grown over the years. New machines are capable of turning out improved end-product, while lowering wastage and energy consumption. We look forward to the shift towards 9-layer technology to further enhance film characteristics and yield higher savings. The Malaysian Plastics Manufacturers Association (MPMA) has developed a roadmap from inputs provided by plastic manufacturers to meet the aspirations of the government's New Economic Model. The proposals include skills training and investment incentives to encourage reinvestment and use of more advanced production technologies and machinery. Being aware of the need to compete globally, the MPMA hopes to encourage more plastics manufacturers to boost their production and improve quality.
