BY paying attention to working dynamics, Tetra Pak was able to launch a real innovation in packaging design much faster than previous projects. Unlike traditional and ubiquitous aseptic cartons (the original which is owed to Tetra Pak as well), the one-litre Tetra Evero Aseptic carton bottle is not flat-packed, but preformed on the Tetra Pak A6 iLine that was also launched recently in May.
Without taking from the remarkable appearance and functionality of the carton bottle itself, the process to achieve this new shape is even more noteworthy. Aiming to get the new product to market as quickly as possible, Tetra Pak utilised a core, cross-functional team across design and engineering, product development and supply chain departments, and co-ordinated with suppliers. This helped to halve the time to have the first prototype up and running in 12 weeks instead of the usual six months.
This creative management approach allowed the packaging giant to introduce the world's first carton bottle for ambient white milk in 40 per cent less time, despite having to hurdle a range of design and engineering challenges. This outside-the-box approach worked so well that Tetra Pak has said they plan to roll out the process to bring more shapes and sizes to the expanding Tetra Evero portfolio.
