Our special feature on sustainable packaging provides an overview of the paper packaging industry; a profile of the green consumer, and efforts by food container manufacturers to meet environmental standards. It takes commitment to protect the environment, whether it’s in manufacturing milk boxes or drinking from them. In other words, it’s expected of you and me.
In some ways, our cover story ties in with the environmental theme because it is about eliminating paper from the workplace. To some point we can do that. But the paperless lab that author Dr Susan Najjar from Thermo Fisher Scientific describes is more than just cutting down on paper use. It is about automating and integrating processes so they communicate with each other. And with the availability of mobile devices, we should be able to access any data from anywhere. The seamless integration should increase efficiency and lower production costs, so it is worth considering.
