Food Pacific Manufacturing Journal

AS CONSUMERS, we’d like to believe that what we put on the table is good enough for our family, meaning that we trust our sources – the grocer, the butcher, the fruit vendor. Many times we go for the higher end to assure ourselves of better quality. When suppliers take advantage of this trust, we see how it backfires on the entire industry, business- and integrity-wise. Up and down the supply chain, manufacturers and food companies start looking left and right, pointing fingers, because no one wants to be tagged – and remembered in food history – as the source, although, eventually they will be found out.
And so this month’s issue has more than its share of reports on food safety for the benefit of companies looking to upgrade processes. This also serves to assure consumers with the fact that, suppliers in general, even those only indirectly affected by food scandals, are seriously evaluating their procedures and processes, to meet new industry standards and government guidelines. Otherwise the consequences – as we’ve seen in the past three months – can be great.
Meanwhile, if food scandals (or the summer heat) have put you off in some way, there’s always yoghurt or ice cream to cool you down. We’ve got a few ice cream parlours featured in this issue as well.
